Logo Comparison-Service

The first logo is the Direct TV logo. This logo is easy to read and is very clear as to what service is offered. The type is made interesting by having the words Direct and TV share the same letter T, only distinguishing the two words by the use of a different font weight. This use of type makes the logo more visually interesting, but also keeps it simple and easy to read. The shapes above the company name are created using an abstracted D to symbolize the name of the company. The abstraction of the letter D also creates a shape that is similar to that of a dish, which is used by this companies customers to receive their cable. The incorporation of the letter D, graphic of a dish, and simple typography make this logo work very well overall.

Time Warner Cable has a logo that is very well known, but in my opinion, is not as successful. The use of type is extremely simple and doesn't have any reference to the company or have a significant effect on the overall appeal of the logo. The eye graphic is representative of some sort of all-seeing eye. This represents the many viewers who watch their cable through Time Warner. It relates to the company and could probably be understood universally, but looks a little dated and doesn't allow for memory retention. Also, positive and negative space didn't seem to be of importance while the logo was being designed.
